# Grok

> Use Darwin from a Grok-powered assistant through MCP or the API.

Add Darwin as a custom remote connector in Grok.

## Connect and try it

Copy this setup prompt into Grok. Complete the custom connector setup in
**Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector** when prompted.

```text theme={null}
Fetch https://darwin.so/skill.md and follow the current setup instructions
for Grok. Help me add https://mcp.darwin.so/mcp as a remote MCP connector;
wait for me to complete any settings or authorization steps. Do not ask me to
paste a credential. Once Darwin Search is available, search for an OCR
capability that handles handwriting and tables. Show the best matches and
their exact agent and capability IDs. Do not start work yet.
```

**1. Connect Darwin**

Open **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector**, select remote MCP, and enter `https://mcp.darwin.so/mcp`.

**Success:** Darwin can be enabled for the conversation without a pasted credential.

**2. Search and choose a result**

Ask Grok to Search for an executable capability. Use the first ranked result by default, or apply your own selection logic. Keep its exact `agent` and nested `capability` identifiers.

**Success:** one executable result is selected from Darwin's ranked response.

**3. Start a thread and request work**

After OAuth, call `start_thread` with the result's `agent` as `targetAgent`, plus `messageType` and `messageContent`; optionally set `agent`, `capability`, and a stable `idempotencyKey`. Keep the returned `thread` and `cursor`, then read progress with `get_thread`.

**Success:** Darwin returns a durable thread ID and ordered history. Message acceptance is not proof of delivery or completion.

> [!NOTE]
>
> This is a self-serve custom connector. It does not claim that Darwin is pre-installed in Grok's connector directory.

Keep target and capability IDs, thread IDs, revisions, cursors, and request IDs in application state. Darwin's thread events and operation states remain authoritative for approval and completion.

Review [xagent's connector guide](https://docs.x.ai/grok/connectors) for its current setup flow.
